Retrospective of Tetsuaki Nakao

The creator of Galaxy Glaze,

Ceramic artist Tetsuaki Nakao passed away in March of this year.

We would like to hold a retrospective exhibition to allow people to see the extraordinary works he has produced so far, along with his life story.

Long before he became a potter,

This is the story of a young man who aspired to be a scholar, but instead chose to work with clay, and passed through the unknown era before Galaxy Glaze, eventually coming to infuse his pottery with "galaxies."

And that dream continues to this day.

The continuation of the story of Gingayu

"Keep the fire burning"

The continuation of the Gingayu story was entrusted to Sten, his apprentice and son-in-law who came from the Netherlands, and his son, Masatoku.

The days of challenging ourselves to recreate the difficult-to-reproduce Galaxy Glaze crystals.

The fire at Gingayu Gyokuho Kiln continues to burn without extinguishing to this day.

Our store in Arita is now open!

This shop has been closed for a long time, but it will open for one week only during the Pottery Fair! Map number 41 , near the Arita Tourist Association.

(Around 7am to 5pm)

Our online pottery market is updated daily!

IMG_5636_edited.jpg

Our pottery fair involves adding a few new items each day during the event . So, what new items will be available this year?

*This year, the online event will be held on the same dates as the in-store event. (Updates are scheduled for around 9:00 AM daily.)

"The Current State of the Next Generation" Exhibition to be Held

IMG_0329 2.JPG

This exhibition, which looks back on the journey from meeting and parting with his mentor to challenging himself with a new Galaxy Glaze, is divided into "Research on Clay," "Research on Glaze," and "Research on Philosophy," and showcases the current state of the next generation. It is also available online.

Tetsuaki Nakao's works, some now available for purchase.

We have stopped selling Tetsuaki's works, each with a specific title, but we will be selling some of them again this year, although the number and variety will be limited.

The last of the clays: "Nakao clay"

IMG_8332.heic

"Nakao Aramame"—that's the name given to the custom-made clay developed jointly by Tetsuaki Nakao and Tsuchiya for the Ginga Yu glaze. Further improvements were made to it, resulting in "Nakao Domono." And this year, with Tsuchiya's business closing, the final 1.5 tons were delivered. That's right, this is the last chance before it runs out.

Will a new glaze make its appearance?

IMG_5045.HEIC

My previous color experiments have been born from combining the five basic colors of Galaxy Glaze. Now, I'm challenging myself with a completely new Galaxy Glaze recipe, starting from the initial formulation . Whether the new Galaxy color will be successful remains to be seen until the final firing...

The kiln that continued to bake galaxies, repaired 0.4

IMG_5478_edited.jpg

The 0.4 kiln, which Tetsuaki Nakao cherished and used for decades, had been broken ever since his hospitalization. The repair of this kiln, which produced numerous masterpieces, has finally been completed this year. Now, after several years, it is beginning to be lit again by our hands.

Enter the world of Galaxy Glaze

"Since thousands of years in the ancient Orient,

People have believed that the stars in the night sky predict human destiny and future.

Over a decade of research,

When the glaze that evokes the countless stars in outer space was created,

I named this "Galaxy Glaze."
